Gabriella Disler ist Licht-Installationskünstlerin und Fotografin, wobei sich beide Disziplinen in ihrem Schaffen stets zu einem integralen Kunstwerk verbinden.
Das Fotografieren steht jeweils am Beginn jeder künstlerischen Recherche und daraus resultierenden räumlichen Intervention, denn im Fotografieren manifestiert sich ihre ausge- prägte Wahrnehmungsfähigkeit und ihr Sinn für Situationsqualitäten an Orten, die kaum je unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf sich ziehen. Gabriella Disler spürt fotografierend im Beiläufigen und Unspektakulären das Wesenhafte auf. Sie weiss mittels Fokus und Verzicht auf alles Effekthascherische in ihren präzisen Bildern magische Momente zu speichern.
Nie lässt es die Künstlerin indes auf der konventionellen Präsentation ihrer Fotografien bewenden; immer strebt sie bei deren installativer Inszenierung eine weitere Verdichtung des Motivs und die Intensivierung der Bildatmosphäre an. Sie erreicht ihr Ziel durch Zurichten der Prints, sei dies durch Skalpellschnitte und plastische Verformung, sei es durch räumliche Staffelung, durch Paarung mit reflektierenden Glasscheiben oder durch eine subtile Mise en Scène mit Holzleisten.
So werden Gabriella Dislers choreographierte Fotografien für die Betrachter zu Erlebnisräu- men, denn nicht nur zieht das von ihr behutsam erfasste Motiv an sich in Bann, sondern auch die Entrückung,Überblendung und die unorthodoxe Mutation des Bildträgers. Die dergestalt überhöhten Wirklichkeitsausschnitte prägen sich ein und schärfen unser Augenmerk für die Besonderheit des Nebensächlichen.
Gabriella Disler creates light installations and photographs, with both disciplines continually linked into an integral artwork in her oeuvre. Her artistic research and the resulting interven- tions in space begin with the act of photography every time, because it is in photography that her highly developed ability to perceive and her sense for the situational qualities of places that would scarcely ever draw our attention manifest themselves.
In taking photographs, Gabriella Disler tracks down what is essential within the incidental and unspectacular. She knows how to use focus and the renunciation of any sensational effect to record magical moments in her precise images. At the same time, the artist never remains satisfied with a conventional presentation of her photographs; in their installational staging she always strives for a further concentration of the motif and the intensification of the visual atmosphere.
She achieves this goal by manipulating the prints, whether through incisions
with a scalpel and sculptural deformations,through their tiered arrangement in space, through their pairing with reflective panes of glass or through a subtle mise en scène using strips of wood. In this way Gabriella Disler’s choreographed photographs become experien- tial spaces for their viewers: mesmerising is not only the motif in itself, which the artist has carefully captured – the same is true of the disconnection, superimposition and unorthodox mutation of the image’s support.
The excerptsof reality intensified in this manner form a lasting impression and sharpen our awareness for the remarkable quality of the incidental.
